Tomato Sauce with Bacon

My Tomato Sauce Recipe with added Bacon can be added to low-carb pasta, Zoodles or cauliflower rice to make a lovely hot or cold healthy lunch.

For a healthier version then instead of the olive oil use a1 cal spray oil and a drop of water to cook out the onions.

The recipe below is only 9g net carbs, perfect for a satisfying lunch or supper. Sprinkle a little grated Parmesan over just before serving. To make it even healthier serve with a lovely crispy green salad.

If you prefer a smooth sauce then just blitz in a food processor. You could omit the bacon as a vegetarian option or just to give you a nice healthy tomato sauce. Add a little Worcestershire Sauce for a further punch.

  • 1 medium Onion finely chopped
  • 1 stalks Celery finely chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic finely chopped
  • 0.5 Sweet pepper finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp Tomato puree
  • 200 ml Pasatta
  • 1 tin Chopped tomatoes
  • 2 tsp Basil
  • 4 rashers Back bacon chopped into 1cm pieces
  • Salt and pepper

  1. Heat olive oil in a frying pan and then add the onions cooking on a low heat so as not to brown them.

After a couple of minutes add the celery, pepper and garlic.

Cook until all vegetables are soft but not coloured and set aside in a bowl.

  2. To the hot frying pan add the bacon and cook on a fairly hot heat. You will need to keep the bacon moving as it crisps as it will burn easily if left unattended.

  3. Add the vegetables back to the pan and mix quickly.

Include the rest of the ingredients giving everything a good stir.

  4. Cook for a couple of minutes, check seasoning and add to required taste.

Serve with pasta, zoodles or low carb pasta.
